Suspended Bicycle Rack Saves Space and Sanity

Are you looking for a simple way to store your bicycle? Perhaps it is a bicycle storage option that requires little effort and more importantly, requires very little cash? Well take a look at this unique suspended bicycle rack. It provides excellent storage for a single bicycle, keeping it up off of the floor so you do not have to waste valuable space storing your bike.

Now, you are probably wondering what I am talking about when I refer to a suspended bicycle rack. Did this bicycle rack throw a rock through the classroom’s window, and now has to spend a couple days at home (seriously what kind of punishment is giving a bad kid vacation?). No, this is not a “kicked out of school” bike rack, it is a suspended bike rack – meaning it “suspends” your bicycle from the ceiling.

There are quite a few good reasons to suspend your bicycle up from the ceiling when it is not in use. First of all, it saves space and allows you to use that area for something more productive. Secondly, with your bicycle up off of the ground there is very little chance that you run into the bike while doing something else, preventing you or your bike from being damaged in the process.

Now I know what you are thinking: “A suspended bicycle rack sounds expensive!” Well guess what? You are wrong. A suspended bicycle rack is actually one of the most inexpensive ways to store your bicycle. In fact, it costs just about as much to buy the Hoist Monster Bicycle Rack as it does to buy a super-sized Double Six Dollar Burger from Carl’s Jr!

Like I said this suspended bicycle rack only costs around 15 dollars, which is an unbelievable deal! This hoist rack can hold one bicycle and judging by its high marks (5 stars on Stacks and Stacks), it does the job very well!

Outdoor Bicycle Cover for Wet & Wild Winter Months

Keeping your bicycle in peak condition is a very important aspect of being a dedicated rider. While I have a great indoor location to store my bicycle, some of us are not so lucky to have a big space to store their vehicle.  Perhaps you live in a small apartment but have a balcony space. There is no space inside to store your bicycle, but there is plenty of room to keep it outdoors. However an outdoor bicycle cover is a must-have if you keep your bike stored outside.

Even if your balcony has a nice overhang above it which keeps the rain and snow off of your bicycle, you should look into an outdoor bicycle cover. This is because these overhangs often do not keep all of the moisture off of your bicycle, and this often leads to rusting and damage to your bike. Instead, use something such as the Esterna Bicycle Cover to keep your bicycle looking excellent even when it is stored outdoors.

Outdoor Bicycle Cover

This bicycle cover is made from heavy duty material, making it the ideal outdoor bicycle cover. The thick material keeps rain, snow, sleet and other types of moisture off of your bicycle. When the frame of your bike gets wet and is not properly dried, it can lead to rusting which makes the bicycle look bad and can also be quite dangerous.

This cover is made from 600 Denier Polyester Canvas, which is an incredibly durable material that will not crack and fade from sunlight. With a PVC coating, this outdoor bicycle cover is highly water resistant, wicking the water away off of your bicycle.

This outdoor bicycle cover is not just a necessity in the winter with wet weather, but also the summer when the sun can cause equally devastating damage to your bicycle.

Affordable Bike Racks for the Budget Conscious

For the last few months I have been using a jerry-rigged “bike rack” to store my ride. While this has been extremely cost effective, I worry that my bicycle will get stolen at some point. The bicycle is simply tied up to a truss in the parking garage below my building. While this basement garage is fairly well-secured, it is not particularly difficult for an intruder to get into if he or she so desired. So I started to research an appropriate bicycle rack for my storage needs and came across and (perhaps not so surprising) revelation: bicycle racks are expensive! Here are a couple suggestions for affordable bike racks.Afforable Bike Racks

While you may not want to blow your money on a bike rack, it is important to not be penny-wise and pound-foolish. If your bicycle is not secured properly, you could end up spending hundreds or thousands to replace your bicycle or its parts when you could have just parted with 50 bucks or so to keep it properly stored. While it may seem like an unnecessary expense at the time, you will be extremely happy with your decision when you realize the garage has been raided but your bicycle was left untouched.

So let’s go onto the affordable bicycle racks so you can find the proper storage for your ride. While you can definitely spend some big bucks on a rack, there are plenty that are sturdy, secure and low-cost.

Two great affordable bike racks

The Lean Machine Gravity Bike Rack has a very fitting name – it is both extremely durable and lightweight, making it perfect for those that need to store their bicycle on the go. The rack can hold up to two bicycles, and with a price tag under 60 dollars, is certainly a great affordable bike rack choice.

For those that are a little more tight on space, the Platinum One Bike Adjustable Wall Mount is a great affordable bike rack option. This rack can be installed onto the wall and takes up next to no space! The rack can hold one bicycle at a time and comes in at a price under $40! This is one of the most simple affordable bike racks available today.

Affordable Bike Racks

As you can see, there are plenty of affordable bike racks available for any situation and need. With so many options available, there really is no excuse for you to keep tying your bike up to trees and stops signs in your front yard!

Apartment Bike Storage: Not as Hard as you Think!

This may not come as a surprise to most of you, but storing a bicycle in a small apartment is a very difficult task! Apartments can be quite cramped right off the bat, but adding in a bulky and space-consuming bicycle makes it even more uncomfortable. To truly get apartment bike storage right, you need to have the correct style of bike rack, the right tools and a willingness to try out a few different locations for mounting said bike rack.

The best racks for apartment bike storage are designed to be mounted to the wall. That way you can store the bicycle up out of the way and not lose valuable floor space. These racks can be easily installed – but be sure to mount the rack to the stud so it is strong enough to hold your bicycle in place. When bike racks are mounted to nothing but the drywall, you end up with a disaster.

Apartment Bike Storage

One of my favorite racks for apartment bike storage is the Single Wall Mounted Bike Rack by Delta Design. This rack is very well made and is perfect for storing your bicycle up and away from the main living areas. The rack allows you to store your bicycle parallel to the wall, so it does not stick way out into the room.

All of the feedback I have received regarding this bike rack by Delta Design is that it is almost as if it was custom-built for apartment dwellers. It is easy to install and does not do much damage to the walls. Another thing that is great about this bike rack is that it includes a tire-tray which prevents your tires from scuffing up the paint on your apartment’s walls. The tray fits any size tire.

Another thing people have noted about the bicycle rack is that it actually looks pretty stylish when the bike is not mounted. This is not something you hear very often about bike racks, especially those for apartment bike storage. But because this bike rack has a contemporary appearance, it looks cool with or without a bike!

Apartment Bicycle Storage for your New Home

Moving into a new apartment for the first time is a very exciting prospect for young people. You finally have a space you can call your own. The pride in maintaining your own home is a great feeling for young people. However, it seems these days apartments are getting smaller, and come with less storage space than ever before. Combine this with the resurgence in popularity of cycling, and you have a bicycle storage crisis! Here are a couple of racks that make for ideal apartment bicycle storage.

You don’t want a bike rack that is too large, because then it eats up too much space in the apartment. Instead, look for a bike rack that takes advantage of the hidden storage opportunities around your home. The Bike Away Hoist is perfect for this task, providing some very space-efficient storage for up to 80 pounds, which is typically the weight of two bicycles. What is great about this bicycle rack is that it stores the bicycles parallel to the wall, which makes this space-efficient apartment bicycle storage.

Apartment Bicycle Storage

For those that have a little bit more room but need to store more bicycles, there are other options. These may not be as space-efficient as the Bike Away Hoist, but they do provide durable and ample storage for bicycles. For folks that find themselves in this situation, I would recommend the Free Standing 4 Bike Rack for your apartment bicycle storage needs.

Apartment Bicycle Storage

What is great about this bicycle rack is that it is freestanding, so you do not need to worry about all the work that goes into mounting a bicycle rack. Instead of ruining your wall or spending all afternoon searching for studs to mount the rack to the wall, you can simply set this rack up and let the storage begin!

These two racks make for excellent apartment bicycle storage! With durable designs and space saving qualities, the bike racks are a must-have for anyone in a smaller dwelling!

Bicycle Commuting for Mental and Physical Health

One of the biggest crises facing the United States is the obesity epidemic. Popular food items seem to just get worse and worse, and people are exercising less and less. This is leading to all sorts of problems for our nation, including rising health-care costs and a lowered life-expectancy. Bicycle commuting is a great way to get some built-in exercise while avoiding the frustration of the morning commute.

Many people do not realize that riding a bike to work can often be more time-efficient than driving. While you definitely sacrifice the comfort of an air-conditioner and cushioned seats, in return you will get a free work-out (no gym membership required!) and perhaps shorter commute times.

My father in law recently started to make a point of using his car as little as possible. Instead of driving the 3 miles to work every single day, he has begun to walk or use his bicycle. Not only does he feel better about his carbon footprint and mark on our environment, but he has started to shed some weight as well!

And unlike publBicycle Commutingic transportation where you are at the mercy of the bus driver or rely on the train coming on time, bicycle commuting allows you to be in charge of where and when you go. And instead of being stuck on a fixed route like a bus or train, a bicycle provides just as much freedom as a passenger vehicle (okay, maybe you should not try to ride on the freeway).

If you are working a full time job, it can be pretty difficult to find time to make it to the gym. But if you are bicycle commuting, there is no need to worry about getting to the gym every day. Instead, every single day you will have at least two free work-outs!

Bicycle commuting can be a pretty strenuous activity. If you are like me and tend to get sweaty really easily, I would recommend bringing a change of clothes for your ride.

After you are done bicycle commuting, get an appropriate bike rack!

If you don’t have a reliable bicycle rack at home, I would recommend something simple like the Grandstand Single Bike Rack. This rack takes up very little space in the home, and is perfect for keeping your bicycle upright and in good condition.

Gear Up!

Bikes are bulky and take up a lot of room, which is why bike racks that are wall or ceiling mounted are a great way to free up floor space. Here are a few styles that might help your bike take up less space.

Bicycle Hanger - Stores Up To Four Bikes

The Bicycle Hanger – Stores Up To Four Bikes allows you to hang bikes by one wheel. This bike rack is great in the garage where space is always at a premium. Holding up to four bikes this rack is ideal for a family or anyone with a bike collection.

Don’t think four bikes will do it? Then the Mountain Bike Rack, with six slots, has the storage you need. This rack allows you to dedicate a wall to storing and displaying your bikes.

For a bike rack that offers storage space for your bike and all your bike gear add the Wall Mounted Bicycle Rack – Double Vertical. Built in shelves are the perfect place to store clip in shoes, a bike lock or your helmet.

With a minimalist design that is subtle enough to use in your apartment or in the garage try the Single Wall Mounted Bike Rack – Set of 2. A hook holds the top tire while the lower tray keeps the lower tire from marking the wall. Use as many of these racks as needed to store all your bikes.

Keeping bikes properly stored and out of the way simply requires finding the right bike rack for your space and your bike collection. From the garage to the living room, wherever you store your bike, a bike rack that takes them up, up and away can be a convenient way to make the best use of your space. These bike racks will give you extra space to hang, while giving your bikes a place to hang too.

Indoor Bike Storage

Sometimes finding bike storage in your apartment can seem like a challenge. If you don’t have a garage and don’t feel comfortable installing a heavy duty bike rack then it’s time to find a creative storage solution. The 2-Bike Gravity Bike Rack has a one of a kind design that provides easy to access bike storage that is just as easy to install as it is to remove.

2-Bike Gravity Bike Rack

This rack uses gravity to provide a wall mounted style bike rack that can easily be adjusted to fit your bikes. Since this rack doesn’t have to be mounted, when it’s time to move you can simply pick it up. This rack is also a great way to put a bike collection on display, with a staggered design that makes it easy to see each bike. This bike rack is perfect for a smaller space where you feel like you’re wasting floor space on your bikes. By storing bikes off the ground you can free up space in no time.

When you’ve outgrown the apartment and have a garage to store bikes in this rack can come in just as handy. Use it throughout the garage to free up space and since it doesn’t have to be installed it can be moved wherever it is needed. This rack also makes it easy to do a quick tune up on your bike, so you can fill up tires or make a slight adjustment with ease. Simply place the bike at the desired height.

Whether you have a large bike collection or just go for a quick ride on the weekends, a versatile wall rack that offers practical storage is a must have. Keeping bikes stored indoors is one of the best ways to keep them in their best riding shape and an indoor bike rack makes it that much more convenient.

Using a Locker for Bike Tool Storage

Whether you have an entire garage to dedicate to working on your bike or live a studio apartment and are working with limited space, it can be difficult to find the right tool storage for your bike. Storing everything in one place is the best way to ensure you always know where everything is when it’s time for a tune up. Adding a locker to the garage or wherever you like to work on your bike can be a great way to gain the storage you need. With a classic and durable design, lockers are a great choice for anyone looking to add some tool storage.

If you have to store your bike inside because you don’t have a garage then most likely you don’t have a place to store tools either. A locker can be a great option for adding tool storage to your home, as they come a variety of colors and sizes that blend more easily with home décor than tool organizers that are more utilitarian and designed for the garage. The Powell Trends Locker has a compact design and comes in a variety of colors that make it an easy fit for smaller spaces.

Even if you have a garage or workshop you probably have a lot of other tools floating around the garage that can make it difficult to keep track of bike accessories. By adding a locker to the garage you can keep things organized and easy to find, so you don’t have to sort through your tool box. The Modern Loft Locker Storage Tower has a unique design that provides both open shelving and hidden storage in the cabinet below for all the bike tool storage you need. From wrenches to tire pumps a locker can be the perfect place to store all your must have bike gear.

Challenge the Laws of Gravity with this Gravity Challenging Bike Rack!

Jeez, how about this guy? He’s headin’ for a brusin’ — or crusin’ for a hurtin’. If only we could save him from his fate, with like a really neat futuristic device that could change the way gravity works, like really just make sure he didn’t clobber his face and more importantly wreck that sweet bike, simply by using a device that could stop gravity in it’s tracks and by extension stop this guy and his bike in their tracks so he didn’t wreck that cool bike and break face, which he’s about to do. Man, too bad it’s only 2010 (almost 2011, ha-ha) and no one has invented that futuristic thing yet, and when they do, they should invent a futuristic time machine so they can go back in time and stop this guy from eating it. But hey, maybe he didn’t crash his bike into that rock, sending him over the edge of that cliff, maybe gravity DID stop, maybe gravity stopped, and everyone was so freaked out that some forward-thinking guy actually had time to go run and get his camera and take a photo of this biker floating in midair. Maybe. I doubt it. You don’t mess with gravity. But what I don’t doubt, is the coolness of this similarly titled bike-rack, the Gravity Bike Rack. Cool!! Right? It’s from Stacks.

A bicycle stand built for two! The space-saving Gravity Bike Rack holds 2 bicycles and helmets securely and needs no installation. Just choose a location and place the bike-rack against any wall. That’s all! No drilling into walls, and no mounting hardware. For added convenience, this unique bike storage stand has two hooks to hang riding helmets. Rubber pads on the back of the rack protect your wall. Perfect for apartments, condos, garages, homes and anywhere space is limited or permanent markings are prohibited. Arms can be partially rotated. Bike rack extends 12.5″ from the wall. Made of sturdy steel tubing. Weight limit is 100 pounds. Good luck!
