Top Bike Racks for Any and All Needs

Last week we talked about the best bike racks for those that are on a budget. These were the simples of the simple – the bike racks for the bachelor, organization for the unemployed. However, this week we are going to take a 180 and discuss the other end of the spectrum: top bike racks. These are the biggest and the best bike racks that you can find. Whether you want to show off to your friends, or just have a whole bunch of bikes to store, this is the post for you.

There are many top bike racks, and people purchase them for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you are a die-hard bicycle enthusiast, and want to have top of the line equipment. Others just like to show off their wealth and have premium everything. Still others have a lot of bicycles they need to have stored, and when you need to organize more than two bicycles, it can get pricey.

The first top bike rack is for those that have a lot of bicycles to store. Perhaps you have a family of four, and want to store all of their bicycles in one easy to maintain location. The Indoor Outdoor Poly Lumber Bike Rack is ideal for this situation. This rack is made from a unique poly material that makes it resistant to the elements. With space to store up to 8 bicycles, you have plenty of room for the family and maybe even some friends too!

Next is the top bike rack for road warriors. This car-mounted bicycle rack is perfect for finding that remote locale for your next ride. The Advantage Sports Rack GlideAway2 provides incredible storage for any journey. It is made by Heininger, one of the top names in car bicycle racks. This is certainly a top bike rack if I have ever seen one.

Lastly, you have the fancy bike rack for those that love to show off. The Garage Gator Motorized System is a great way to show your friends how cool you are. This top bike rack is able to hold up to 220 pounds. What is especially cool about this rack is that it can store items other than bicycles as well.

Top Bike Racks

There you have it, three of the top bike racks available today!

Apartment Bicycle Storage for your New Home

Moving into a new apartment for the first time is a very exciting prospect for young people. You finally have a space you can call your own. The pride in maintaining your own home is a great feeling for young people. However, it seems these days apartments are getting smaller, and come with less storage space than ever before. Combine this with the resurgence in popularity of cycling, and you have a bicycle storage crisis! Here are a couple of racks that make for ideal apartment bicycle storage.

You don’t want a bike rack that is too large, because then it eats up too much space in the apartment. Instead, look for a bike rack that takes advantage of the hidden storage opportunities around your home. The Bike Away Hoist is perfect for this task, providing some very space-efficient storage for up to 80 pounds, which is typically the weight of two bicycles. What is great about this bicycle rack is that it stores the bicycles parallel to the wall, which makes this space-efficient apartment bicycle storage.

Apartment Bicycle Storage

For those that have a little bit more room but need to store more bicycles, there are other options. These may not be as space-efficient as the Bike Away Hoist, but they do provide durable and ample storage for bicycles. For folks that find themselves in this situation, I would recommend the Free Standing 4 Bike Rack for your apartment bicycle storage needs.

Apartment Bicycle Storage

What is great about this bicycle rack is that it is freestanding, so you do not need to worry about all the work that goes into mounting a bicycle rack. Instead of ruining your wall or spending all afternoon searching for studs to mount the rack to the wall, you can simply set this rack up and let the storage begin!

These two racks make for excellent apartment bicycle storage! With durable designs and space saving qualities, the bike racks are a must-have for anyone in a smaller dwelling!

Bicycle Commuting for Mental and Physical Health

One of the biggest crises facing the United States is the obesity epidemic. Popular food items seem to just get worse and worse, and people are exercising less and less. This is leading to all sorts of problems for our nation, including rising health-care costs and a lowered life-expectancy. Bicycle commuting is a great way to get some built-in exercise while avoiding the frustration of the morning commute.

Many people do not realize that riding a bike to work can often be more time-efficient than driving. While you definitely sacrifice the comfort of an air-conditioner and cushioned seats, in return you will get a free work-out (no gym membership required!) and perhaps shorter commute times.

My father in law recently started to make a point of using his car as little as possible. Instead of driving the 3 miles to work every single day, he has begun to walk or use his bicycle. Not only does he feel better about his carbon footprint and mark on our environment, but he has started to shed some weight as well!

And unlike publBicycle Commutingic transportation where you are at the mercy of the bus driver or rely on the train coming on time, bicycle commuting allows you to be in charge of where and when you go. And instead of being stuck on a fixed route like a bus or train, a bicycle provides just as much freedom as a passenger vehicle (okay, maybe you should not try to ride on the freeway).

If you are working a full time job, it can be pretty difficult to find time to make it to the gym. But if you are bicycle commuting, there is no need to worry about getting to the gym every day. Instead, every single day you will have at least two free work-outs!

Bicycle commuting can be a pretty strenuous activity. If you are like me and tend to get sweaty really easily, I would recommend bringing a change of clothes for your ride.

After you are done bicycle commuting, get an appropriate bike rack!

If you don’t have a reliable bicycle rack at home, I would recommend something simple like the Grandstand Single Bike Rack. This rack takes up very little space in the home, and is perfect for keeping your bicycle upright and in good condition.

Bicycle Storage Rack After a Big City Ride

One of the best ways to get in shape is to use your bicycle to get around. This two wheel transportation mode provides an excellent work out for your legs and core. Not only that, riding your bicycle is a great way to get around and avoid traffic. When you are done with the ride, be sure to have the proper bicycle storage rack to keep it in tip top shape.

I know that I have found the benefits of cycling since moving to traffic-choked Southern California. Driving my car simply became too tedious and infuriating, and I would come home in a terrible mood every day. There is nothing more frustrating than sitting in your car for an hour on the dirty 101 freeway only to go 7 miles. I could have jogged that fast!

However, there are lots of great reasons to bicycle in Los Angeles (and your city too) other than soul-crushing traffic.

For one, you get an up-close look at all the interesting neighborhoods that make up the city. Instead of seeing the neighborhoods whiz by at 45 miles per hour, you get to see everyday interactions by your fellow denizens. Perhaps you notice some street art you never saw before, or find a new restaurant that is tucked away, out of sight from automobile traffic.

Once you get home, it is important to keep your bicycle in great shape. That means putting it in a bicycle storage rack so it stays off the ground and does not get any damage. The bicycle storage rack that best fits your needs is not a universal thing.

Which bicycle storage rack is right for me?

Bicycle Storage Rack

Some people have lots of floor space or even a garage, and in that case I would recommend a freestanding bicycle rack. Others have cramped space in the garage, or perhaps live in an apartment. For those folks, I would recommend a hanging bicycle storage rack like the Gravity Bike Rack. This saves floor space and allows you to store multiple bicycles in one place.

Hopefully you can use this advice and begin your own bicycle commuting adventures in your town!

Bike Rack for a Long Springtime Ride

There is no activity that is more relaxing in the springtime than a nice long drive down a winding road. If you have some scenic countryside or coastline to drive through, that makes it even more spectacular. There is just something that is incredibly comforting when you are going 30 miles an hour down an isolated highway with nowhere to go and all the time in the world. Actually, now that I think about it I take that back – there is one thing hat I find more relaxing. That one thing would be driving 30 miles an hour with a bike rack on the back of your car, with somewhere to go – And that somewhere is a nice long countryside bike ride.

I live in a very large and congested city, and riding a bike on the busy boulevards and though jammed-up intersections is not a very pleasurable experience. In fact, it can be downright hazardous for your health. Here in Los Angeles, I pretty much only ride my bicycle for utility and commuting, instead of pleasure. For that reason, I look forward to this time of year so much. The springtime in California means the rolling hills are green and full of colors and smells, the weather is great (not too cold, not too hot), and there is no one getting in my way as I ride along.

Of course, getting yourself and your bicycle out of the city and out to the country can be quite an ordeal if you do not have the proper bike rack. Add in the fact that I prefer to ride with my wife and you can see that this is no simple task. We need a bike rack that can handle multiple bicycles at a time. Luckily, there are many options available for your car’s bike rack.

Car Bike Rack

My perfect bike rack

The bike rack that my wife and I decided to go with is a 4-Bike Carrier by Heininger. What sets this bike rack apart is its ability to hold up to four bicycles at a time. The rack is specifically designed to fit right into your trailer hitch, making the installation quick and easy. One thing I have noticed with cheap car bike racks is that they tend to make a ton of noise while you drive down the road. Usually this noise is accompanied by horrible gas mileage, as the bike rack is causing an unbelievable amount of drag.

However, that is certainly not the case with this car-mounted bike rack. The long car-ride ride up into the hills outside of Los Angeles was practically silent. That was really a good thing because the wife and I are really getting into Game of Thrones on audio books. Let me tell you, there is nothing worse than listening to medieval violence that is obstructed by the whistling and groaning of a non-wind-resistant bike rack.

Car-mounted bike racks are not just for urban-living either. My in-laws love their Heininger bike rack just as much as we do, and they live in a far-off exurb of the Bay Area. The countryside is right there for them! (I mean that literally, their town is ringed by forests). So whether you need to travel far to get your pleasure ride in, or just a few minutes – a car mounted bike rack is a must-have.
